BBC News – Key keeper sought for 12th Century castle near Bridgend

A key keeper is being sought to take care of a 12th Century castle in south Wales.

Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, needs someone to look after Newcastle, near Bridgend.

The post, which comes with a “modest” fee, involves checking the monument on a daily basis and keeping it free of litter.

A new initiative giving free access to Ireland’s historic sites on the first Wednesday of every month has been announced.

The scheme which will take in such sites as the Rock of Cashel and the State
apartments in Dublin Castle is an effort to encourage tourists and local

Hunt-Phelan Home, the antebellum mansion once occupied by Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War, will not be occupied this summer because of back-to-back storms that damaged the roof.
