
Heritage expert Jon Charlton has been handed the job of driving forward plans to bring a 14th Century landmark building back into community use.
The aim of the community-led project is to bring Hylton Castle in Sunderland, its grounds and adjacent dene back to life as an asset for local people and as a visitor attraction.
The venture is backed by £2.9 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £1.5m from Sunderland City Council.
