A bid for funding to redevelop Nottingham Castle and make more of its connection with Robin Hood has been rejected.
Nottingham City Council applied for £14.9m towards the £26m project, which it hoped would create a “world class heritage attraction”.
The Heritage Lottery Fund said bidding for grants was “highly competitive” and it did not have enough money.

PLANS to develop Nottingham Castle in to a world class tourist attraction have hit a stumbling block – after the city missed out on vital funding.
A bid for nearly £15 million was submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) by the council last November.

THE refurbishment of Castledonovan Castle near Drimoleague is due for completion this summer, the OPW have confirmed.
It is hoped that the castle will be open to members of the public in early June or July.
Finance for the refurbishment was officially sanctioned by former minister Síle De Valera in 1991.
