Idlewild amusement park in Ligonier has a castle once more. The Enchanted Castle, which cost $500,000 to build, marks Idlewild’s 60th anniversary this summer and will be home to a new Story Book Forest character, Princess Lily.

Standing two stories tall, with walls that are pinkish in tone, the Enchanted Castle is the largest structure in the Story Book Forest and will be the last stop on the path featuring re-creations and characters of many of children’s favorite stories. The park’… (View original article)

The Palais Stoclet Seduces | Architect Magazine | Architecture, Dining Room, Aaron Betsky, Netherlands Architecture Institute

I should hate the Palais Stoclet, the house Josef Hoffmann designed in 1905 for the Belgian Banker Adolphe Stoclet in Brussels. From the street, it presents a gray façade hiding behind hedges, its windows seeming to begrudge any view either way. Inside, its beauty comes from a combination of geometry that is so present you feel as if you are in a cage. It is a gilded cage, however. In fact, every inch of every surface in the Stoclet—carried out by the artists of the Wiener Wertkstatte—is… (View original article)

(View original article)

Museum Watch: Musée Condé at the Chateau de Chantilly

What to do if you find yourself marooned in Twickenham at the age of 26, in exile from the home you had inherited when you were eight, and you are the son of a king during a republican revolution? If your name is Henri d’Orléans, duc d’Aumale, you build an art collection. Between 1848 and 1870 he recruited the most competent art experts to enrich his ancestral Château de Chantilly upon his return to France. The result: the second finest collection of paintings in France after the Louvre.<... (View original article)
